Exquisite Corpses & Fearful Symmetries

Exquisite Corpses & Fearful Symmetries

>>Exquisite Corpses & Fearful Symmetries<< came to be as a reinterpretation of the series of books ‘‘Fearful Symmetry: Inkblot Books’’ as a way of giving life to the abstract inkblot images, such as attributing forms to clouds. By substantializing the images as creatures, a new world was created and then further explored using the concept of worlding, gathering aspects from different areas as a way of expanding it.

The next main aspect in the development of the book was the game ‘‘Exquisite Corpses’’, created by the surrealists in France in the 20th century, which consists of folding a piece of paper and drawing/writing something without the knowledge of the previous or the next person. In the end, the paper is unfolded and an abstract, but coherent piece is revealed in a Frankenstein fashion.

27 symmetrical parts were designed and divided in 3 groups of 9. The book showcases the pieces, the game instructions and original poetry by the surrealists, all together cataloged through codes inspired by the late 80s sci-fi aesthetic.

Within the book, there are laser-printed parts that invite the reader to create their own creatures and play their own game of ‘‘Exquisite Corpses’’.
